4 DAYS TO GO......

Til Quilt Class 101 Starts!!
This first week is all about Fabric.
Where to source it..? How I choose what to buy? Fat Quarters? What is a Jelly Roll?? How much to buy?? My Favourite online shops...and LOTS more.
And to kick us off this week we will have a HUGE giveaway...All the shops are throwing in tons of FREE fabric, Fabric Vouchers, Discount codes, other bits and pieces....all for YOU to win and get you started on your way to making your first Quilt... or perhaps maybe its your 1000th Quilt!! No one can ever have enough fabric...or supplies!!!!
I have had quite a few emails from you wondering how to follow the class. How you can participate in Giveaways... and what a Giveaway is exactly???? Ok... First,
 How To Follow along??
Believe it or not, I followed blogs for 12 months before i officially followed a blog. What i mean by that is, i used to get online and save my favourite blogs to my favourites in my Internet Explorer before i even knew there was a little thing on every ones side bar that said FOLLOW.
(see it??)...... mmmm Yep... I never noticed, until one day it was pointed out to me. As you will see on my Left hand column is a Followers group. These lovely friends of mine have clicked on the follow button and it has saved my blog in their list of blogs they follow. To do this you either have to be signed into blogger with your Gmail or yahoo account. Or click "follow" for the first time and follow the prompts. I think you can actually even use your face book account. Once you create a profile for yourself, you can then click to follow this blog and other blogs. Blogger saves these blogs you have followed in a folder for you... so that you can log into your profile and scroll down through the list of ALL the blogs you have followed. You will see a little snipped of the latest post from the blog and a picture. Its a great way to quickly browse through ALL the blogs you follow instead of clicking from page to page and waiting for each to Load.
Next,
Follow by Email.
I have created a feed on my left sidebar that you can type in your email address and whenever I post a new blog post, it is send directly to your inbox. This way might work best for you??
You can also Follow through your google reader?? I haven't actually done this so I'm not 100% sure how it all works etc. Choose which way you think would best suit you. For some blogs i choose both. There are alot of blogs i like to "follow" along.. and some i don't want to miss a blog post so i have theirs sent to my email as well.

GIVEAWAYS....
How a giveaway works??
As you will find throughout blog land, one thing us bloggers LOVE to do is offer Giveaways. I have had a few Giveaways on my blog on previous occasions. They are a ton of fun and you can win all sorts of amazing things. How to enter?? Nearly ALL of the giveaways on blog land require you to just leave a comment at the bottom of that blog post. If you are signed into blogger with your previously set up account, leaving comments is easy. You just click on comments, write your comment or answer a question if asked and it posts the comment with your profile icon and leaves a contact email address. If you haven't signed into blogger, you can still leave a comment and enter a giveaway, you just NEED to leave me your email address in your comment so that if you win there is a way i can contact you.
Giveaways usually last open from a few days to a week and are randomly drawn using random.org.  The winners will be contacted by email and posted up on my blog. Then, the goods are sent directly to you!! EASY!! Its a great way to win tons of free things and have a lot of fun entering.
Does that all make sense??
I would like all the people following along with this class to be able to get the full benefits. Entering giveaways, following along to other bloggers through links. Leaving questions and comments. Posting up pictures of things they have made. It is an online class, but it would be great if we can make it as interactive as possible.
I hope this little info has helped you understand how blogs work, how you can follow along so you don't miss a class, how you can enter giveaways and win prizes. You don't need to have a blog of your own, to participate in the class, enter giveaways and follow along. Just choose the best way for you.
I'm excited about...
Starts April 6th. I hope you are all here ready to go!! and ready to win some great fabric!!
And for those of you who have a blog... if you could promote it and tell your 'real life' friends.... i would love for everybody to be able to take advantage of the class and giveaways xxx
Oh,  if your wondering what this old singer sewing machine is doing on my blog??? I picked it up for a bargain on eBay... Its Gorgeous. I cant wait to clean it all up and have my very own 1940's Singer!! xx

  1. Hi, Rebecca! First of all, I'm really excited about your Quilt Class 101 - I'm recommending it to all my "sewing sisters"! And I love your old sewing machine - it looks a lot like one my daughter bought for me at a yard sale (also for a steal!) and it sews beautifully!!

  3. I'm interested to see what I can learn from Quilting 101 even though I consider myself to be an intermediate quilter. I know I still have a lot to learn :-)

  5. Yeah, it took me a while to figure out about Google Reader, too.

SO excited for Quilting 101! This week I finished my 1st quilt and basted my 2nd (the quilt top was already done so I just had to make the back). Very excited for your class. Bring it on!

  7. The Singer is a beauty. It resembles my first sewing machine which helped me make my first quilt. It had been my grandmother's and my grandfather had kept it singing.
I am excited about the class starting. I hope I will be able to contribute as the class goes along.

  14. You have been on my blogroll forever and I didn't realize until just now that I haven't been an official "follower." Who knew?

so your singer looks kinda like a Featherweight, but different. I'm trying to "pin" down the differences (haha)

Will add the button, and also blog about this next week. Yay!

  20. So excited about your class! I haven't been quilting long so I can't wait to pick up your tips along the way. My MIL still sews on her Singer and we have the travel Singer my hubbie's grandmother (or great grandmother?) used.

  21. I can't wait for Quilting 101. I need all the help I can get. I love your Singer. I have been taking in old sewing machines, fixing them up and then finding homes for them. My version of pay it forward! I will add your button to my blogsite. Jean

  22. Wonderful idea. Found you just in time to join in. A great way to get people together. There is a wealth of knowledge out there to be shared.

  23. I also had no idea about the 'follow' button myself for a very long time. I was following in my RSS feed which is built into my IE browser and doing fine BUT, then many blogs required you to 'follow' as a stipulation to entering a giveaway so I had no choice but to do that. I actually prefer to follow the RSS feed and via email subscription to be sure I don't miss things for certain blogs.

I have been reading blogs for quilting and sewing for over a year now but haven't done any sort of step by step "class" as yours sounds like it might be. I hope to follow along and that nothing will interfere with doing so.

Great looking machine you have. It looks like it may have been well taken care of. Enjoy it.

  38. Thanks, Rebecca. I've been quilting for years, but I'm sure I'll pick up some hints and ideas that are new - I always do. And I have a Singer like that which my Mom got new, believe it or not, and it still sews like a champ! If I ever find fabric my new(er) Pfaff and my not-so-new Singer won't sew, I know my old Singer 99K will breeze through it. And it makes wonderful buttonholes with the attachment.

My favorite fabric love right now is Central Park, by Kate Spain. I just love creating with it because the fabric is so pretty, feels so nice, and makes me happy.

Anyway, thanks for the great giveaway. I took the first "class" tonight. Great job!

  41. I just fell in love with the "Happier" collection by Deena Rutter, from Riley Blake. At first
I thought I liked the blue colorway the best, but I think I will need to have a little of each. (OK, maybe more than a little - maybe a lot!)

  45. Wahoo! A quilting class with Rebecca from Chasing Cottons?! I'm in!!!! I'm a newbie quilter (just started fumbling my way around fabric this past September) and have already made three quilt tops and my first fully quilted finish! ... I'm sure there has got to be some easier ways of doing things than what I've come up with! [eye roll] I have been a follower of your since my first days of quilting! Can't wait to follow your class! Thanks!

  46. Hi There, I am really looking forward to starting your Quilting 101 class. I am kinda a self taught sewer I think this little class can help me with my skills. I always have a hard time getting fabric and putting it together. I am very linear and I love fabrics that are made to match up, I just don't have that creative eye to put thing together, I would love to be a winner of your give away!! thanks, Dianne dilariscy@gmail.com

  47. I just found you today through another blog. I am "following" along now. I am also interested in the classes, even though I am a bit late jumping in.

I would have to say that my new-found love would be Jinny Beyer, the Blenders (never saw so many many colors to chose from for the blenders) and the Outback Australia fabric collection. (sundarkoyal@gmail.com)

  55. Rebecca, I am soo new at all of this. I have been a quilter for about 10 years, and I have always loved it. I work at a quilt shop part time, and the majority of our quilters are my age (60 something). But, I absolutely love the blogs, and the enthusiastic talented women who are the proprietors! The modern quilt world is all new to me, and I am loving every part of it. So, I am an old excited beginner. And, hooray for your online class!! Bobbie Kuschel yellowlablover@msn.com
