If additions or changes are made, or the quilting style changed to something more difficult, or any other changes, those should be additional and the customer needs to be aware of it at the outset. Those are the biggest problems I've run into when I've done commission quilts, and it's cost me money most of the time. So just set out a very distinct list - they provide fabric and batting, or you do; design choice; quilting style; time-line (in case they decide they need it early!). You'll avoid a lot of problems this way.

And I absolutely love your baby quilt!! So adorable. I'm a big fan of Kate's stack-and-slash method, too!Sarah Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18393284767325742399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6706014191709190790.post-15513732529568878372011-08-11T04:30:26.555+10:002011-08-11T04:30:26.555+10:00Hi Rebecca! My advice is to be honest with yourself and your customer about how much time you need to complete the project and make a realistic financial estimate of what your time is worth. I have my customers pay for the fabric/batting in advance and pay me for my time (based on an hourly rate that I estimate prior to starting the project), once I hand over the goods. You could approach it a couple of ways, presenting drawn design options for their approval, or getting their permission to design something on your own in their color preferences. It has been my experience that you are more likely to work on, and complete, a project that suits your individual quilting style! I really find it hard to work with colours and fabrics I don't care for, so avoid projects like that! Good luck!Poppyprinthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08251892807966340175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6706014191709190790.post-18333612931788803152011-08-10T03:14:07.166+10:002011-08-10T03:14:07.166+10:00I love this choice of fabric for a baby blanket.I love this choice of fabric for a baby blanket.SweetVineCreationshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01142201078389330022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6706014191709190790.post-2248780710312718742011-08-10T00:33:32.981+10:002011-08-10T00:33:32.981+10:00I really love the fabrics you used for this quilt....I really love the fabrics you used for this quilt.
