My Baby Sling

It's lucky i have the cutest baby in the world....
because I had forgotten how hard it is having a newborn.... although i think now i've forgotten what its like to have more than a few hours sleep. I used to have so much energy and extra time. For those of you who don't seem to have bad memory like me, do you remember how your days run into each other??

I feed.. then burp.. feed some more.. play a little. I settle.. he falls asleep.. wakes up shortly after.... with wide eyes as if hes been asleep for hours.. i try and settle again.  He doesn't want to go back to sleep and i realise... Ahh yep its been 3-4 hrs.. time to feed AGAIN!!
Yep I'm tired and it's constant.... but i am loving every minute of it.
I love being busy with a new baby. It doesn't leave me much time to do all the things i used to... like sewing, taking pictures, and blogging... Not to mention keeping up with the other kiddies and doing the cleaning and washing jobs... YUCK!! I realised today its been nearly been a MONTH.. since i last blogged. WOW where did that go?? So, when i was out and about today, carrying Kobe around in the baby sling i made, i realised I hadn't even shown you one of my most favouritest things... My baby sling!!! So standing in the middle of a car park, i got mum to take a few quick pics on her phone so i could show you.
The front...
and the back...
I just love it.
Is it because i get to carry around a baby with out him breaking my arms?? Or is it because he snuggles in at the perfect height?
Or is it because its made with Anna Maria Horners amazing Velveteen?? mmmm i think that's it!....
Its so soft. So warm. So glamorous.

I have been dying to make a baby sling ever since i bought the book
To make the sling you need a piece of deco weight fabric 23 1/2" x 60". I used two pieces of the velveteen so it could be lined. I had originally bought the fabric to make a baby bag... but this was a WAY better idea! I also made a linen one and mum even made herself one.
I would like a few tips on how to carry him in it. I usually just pop him in. Different directions depending on if hes awake or wants to sleep or snuggle. I don't really know the "correct" way to carry him in it.. so let me know if you have any tips for me??
There you have it. My Baby sling.. What a great gift hey, you HAVE to make one!! If not for yourself, definitely for a sister or friend. xx

  4. The baby sling was my favorite baby item when my baby was a baby. He is now 14. I used it when I ran a daycare for 9 years after that as well. I used it as they grew also instead of holding the kids on my hip as it kept my hands free. When it gets really bad is when you are running a daycare and you have 2 of them on..figure that one out LOL.

  6. Hi Bec, you look so great with your sweet son! That sling is beautiful and I'm sure really practical, too! As I don't have kids, I'm wondering how long time you can use that - if I have still time to make a present. I'm so happy that you have help from your mom! Enjoy this precious time with your family!x Teje

  7. The sling is beautiful. Great choice of fabric. I didn't have that type of sling when my children were small (they are 26 and 23) so I can't give advice. I am qualified to say that you are correct, that is the most beautiful baby I have seen in a long time, maybe as long as 23 years.

  9. This is beautiful as well as functional. Wish they would have had them many years ago with my children. I know someone who is due anytime now. This would be a nice gift. Thank you. Your sling is lovely.

  11. Kobe is so cute, I want to hold and cuddle with him. Wish I'd had something so practical and pretty as your sling when my boys were babies. One was a 9 pounder, so he really killed my arms. He's 33 now, so it's way too late for me, but maybe a daughter-in-law will appreciate a sling, when the time comes. I may have to steal your AMH fabric idea, too. That looks amazing.

  13. I love the fabric for your sling, so cute! It looks like you have him in at the right position, but you can check www. TheBabyWearer .com for more information/ positions using a sling. It also has all kinds of information should you choose to use another carrier style later on, like a mei-tei or woven wrap ( my personal mode of babywearing.) Cheers!

  18. I do remember - days I didn't even get to bathe, and being so tired that I started to wonder if you could just die from sleep deprivation. But my daughter had medical issues that made it so much worse than a healthy newborn.

Your sling is beautiful - I never got the hang of those things - and you look amazing. Not at all like someone who has recently given birth.

  26. As with most methods of child rearing, a baby sling isn't for everyone. If baby wearing interests you, do some further research online or at the library to see if it's for you. The most important thing is that your baby be secure and comfortable.
